11 Year Old Gives Birth to Baby Boy
The girl and her family are not being named in order to defend the girl’s privacy. According to Dr. Manny Alvarez, the girl’s age places her in major risk. “A very complete approach to her care desires to be instituted untimely in her pregnancy,” Alvarez said.
A topical information by the Guttmacher Institute said U.S. teen pregnancies were up 3 percent in 2006.
But of course, this case is not about a teenager, Dr. Abdulla Al-Khan, a leading high-risk obstetrician noted; it’s about a pre-teen, or child, whose body, is not built to hold a child yet.
“Her body is obviously not defined for pregnancy with its short standing,” Al-Khan said. “Her chest is not widely developed for breast tissue, her bones aren’t quite fused, and once you description a child this young to high amounts of progesterone and particularly estrogen, there is argument that it could halt her growth.”
Al-Khan told other medical challenges facing a girl as young as 10 or 11-years-old include:
The pelvis is not defined for normal childbirth;
The vagina could carry on injury throughout a natural birth;
Ablow pointed out that the girl is reliant on her own family to take care of her, till now she has a child who is dependent on her.
Al-Khan said in his opinion, the topic of terminating the baby would have to come up in this kind of case, because as sensitive a subject as it is, going through with the pregnancy would be a greater risk than having an abortion.
