Jim Mora Fired
Till Friday night, a symbol with Jim Mora’s name identifying his chief parking spot was still in front
of Seattle Seahawks headquarters. There is reason to believe that one with Pete Carroll’s name on it could soon get replaced.
Just after a season earlier the Seahawks fired Mora in the day and speculation on Mora’s replacement right away centered on Carroll, the charismatic Southern California coach.
Sources have reported that Seahawks chief executive officer Tod Leiweke flew to California before firing Mora to interview Carroll for the job. The sources have further added that Seattle – with team owner Paul Allen, the Microsoft Corp.
Tycoon for whom money was never a limitation is now believed to be offering Carroll a five-year contract worth $7 million per season to be its president and coach.
That is a raise of more than $2 million annually on what Carroll is said to be earning at USC.
Carroll’s agent, Gary Uberstine, did not instantly return phone and e-mail messages left by some press reporters on Friday night.
“Pete’s name comes out at this time every year. In the past, he hasn’t commented on such reports,” USC spokesman Tim Tessalone said in an e-mail to The AP. “He was not expected in (Friday). … At this point, we have nothing to report.”
A Seahawks spokesman inside the team’s headquarters refused to state anything on Carroll. Carroll did not added anything on the phone message that was left by The reporters.
