The Australian Institute of Architects has announced an updated version of the Client Architect Agreement (CAA2024) for full services is now available.

A review process commenced in 2022, involving consultations with the Institute's committees at all levels. Revisions to the agreement were implemented based on collated member feedback, legal assessments and evaluations by the Institute's professional indemnity insurer. The review process has resulted in the withdrawal of the former CAA2009 and CAA2019 from sale.

The agreement "includes provisions and clarifications on key mechanisms, such as copyright and consequences of breach of copyright, fees, payment terms, GST, negotiating changes to the services and fees wherever there are protracted services or variations, circumstances for terminating the agreement, actions required on termination, and signing the contract using electronic signing," the Institute stated.

"Layout, concepts and defined terminology familiar from the previous CAA editions are used and clarified, as well as updates for changes to the state and territory Architects Acts and codes of practice."

A 2024 Client Architect Agreement for Limited Services (CAALS2024) will also be introduced for smaller, less complex projects, as well as for partial services or lower-risk engagements.
