Now if you're not familiar with poutine (where the hell have you been?), it's a simple, wonderful dish comprised of golden-brown French fries topped with brown gravy and cheese curds.
There are all kinds of goofy variations on this, and I've tried many, but you will not be able to beat the simplicity of the OG brown gravy and cheese curds combo.
Keeper of the Cup Phil Pritchard shared a video this week of Carrier helping to construct some poutine in the trophy's bowl.
That looks delicious, and I see a serious pro move happening in that clip.
Notice the parchment paper lining the bowl. Sure, that's going to make clean-up a breeze, but it's also a good safety measure.
Every single time I see the Cup without lining it, I kind of wince. That trophy has been through a lot, and there have been many a child who have been given baths in the bowl.
Imagine going to someone's house for dinner, and they're like, "Yeah, we once used that bowl the salad is in to give our kid a bath."
It wouldn't matter if it happened decades earlier; your appetite would be gone.
I'm sure it's given a good scrub afterward... or they just hit it with a garden hose.
So, I wouldn't take my chances, and it looks like William Carrier wasn't, either.
I respect that, and damn, do I want some poutine right now.
