A new initiative aimed at enhancing Northern Ireland̢۪s vibrant nightlife and supporting its thriving hospitality and tourism industry has been launched.

The Northern Ireland Night-Time Commission, established by Hospitality Ulster and the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), seeks to advocate for businesses, promote the night-time economy, and influence key policy changes to ensure continued growth.

Northern Ireland’s night-time economy attracts millions of visitors annually and significantly contributes to both the local and national economies, with the hospitality and tourism sector generating over £2 billion each year.

More than 70,000 people are employed in the industry across the country, and hospitality accounts for two-thirds of all tourism spending.

Colin Neill, Chief Executive of Hospitality Ulster, emphasized the importance of nightlife as both an economic driver and a reflection of Northern Ireland̢۪s culture.

Michael Kill, Chief Executive of the NTIA, echoed these sentiments, stating that the Commission will shape a future where the night-time economy is fully recognized for its value and contribution to Northern Ireland̢۪s identity.

Anna Doherty, Chief Executive of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the importance of addressing barriers limiting the growth of the night-time industry, particularly in the North West.

Michael Stewart, Belfast̢۪s first night czar, called the Commission's formation a vital step in ensuring that industry voices are heard on policies impacting the night-time economy, such as taxation, transport services, and public safety.

Sacha Lord, Greater Manchester̢۪s night-time economy advisor and Chair of NTIA, praised the creation of the Commission, underscoring the need for local voices to be heard in shaping policies.

The Northern Ireland Night-Time Commission is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting businesses and helping the night-time economy continue to thrive, both locally and internationally.
